On 24 January 2020, Dr Amy Weatherburn will present her doctoral research findings at a conference that considers the responses to modern slavery in the context of ights, dignity and religion hosted by the University of Sheffield. Her paper, entitled “We get them on something else”: a proposal for the conceptualisation of exploitation in criminal law improving criminal justice responses to human trafficking and modern slavery, will consider the implementation of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the extent to which a future response that is premised on human dignity can engage with the degradation and inhumane treatment that victims of exploitation encounter.
