Tijdens de Fellowship Ceremony was er veel aandacht voor 'war for talents', een stokpaardje van vicerector voor Innovatie en Valorisatie Hugo Thienpont, die tevens de universitaire fellowshipcoördinator is. Er woedt in de wereld van vandaag een nooit geziene war for talents en talent is nu eenmaal dun gezaaid, toch als we het over zogeheten STEM-profielen hebben: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Talentenjacht
Wat kunnen we doen als klein land om bij de winnaars van die talentenoorlog te horen? Hoe kunnen we méér talent tot ontwikkeling brengen? Een vraag die Engineering Fellow, alumna en senior vice president van Telenet Martine Tempels beantwoordde in een videoboodschap (omdat ze niet aanwezig kon zijn). Volgens Tempels moeten we meer meisjes en meer jongeren met een migrantenachtergrond warm maken voor STEM-profielen. En daarnaast zou iedereen noties van technologie moeten hebben, zoals iedereen talen moet kennnen of moet kunnen rekenen. Minister van Onderwijs Crevits stelde dat de "war for talent een war for all talents moet worden, want we zullen alle talenten nodig hebben in de toekomst."
