There’s always a very positive atmosphere in the air, both in the Copy Center and on campus

“It is my first day here as a job student at the Crazy Copy Center on the VUB campus. I found the advertisement on Facebook and then applied. Now I can come and work here every Tuesday. So far, everything is fine. I mainly have to focus on managing the cash register and help if customers experience problems with printing. It is only my first day after all. I need the money as I will pay for part of my student dorm myself this year. Last year I lived in a student dorm in Oudergem, but that is no longer the case this year. This year I have, so far, commuted by public transport, from Sint-Genesius-Rode to Etterbeek. I am now looking for a student dorm in the center of Brussels to reduce the commute time. I also have the opportunity to experience the Brussels nightlife, which is great. It is also simply fun to work in a pleasant environment, which can also be said in general about the entire campus. There is always a very positive atmosphere here, both in the Copy Center and on campus. Everyone is welcome here and can have their say. Although the restaurant could be a bit bigger for me, but that is just a minor complaint. There is not much to complain about, there are so many options here at the VUB.”

On the occasion of the VUB’s 50th anniversary, prof. dr. Martina Temmerman asked the students in her introductory course on journalism genres to make portraits of people on the VUB campus. The ‘snapshots’ resulting from the project Humans of the VUB offer a lovely cross section of life on our university campus in 2019/20.
